ARON (Aaron), Pietro. - Musician, born in Florence around the end of the 15th century (1490?), died in Venice in 1545. A clear theorist in his writings, he belongs to those who believed it necessary to break free from musical theories, thus paving the way for Vicentino and Zarlino. He left many theoretical works: *Libri III de institutione harmonica* (Bologna 1516), *Il Toscanello in musica* (Venice 1523, 1529, 1539), *Trattato della natura et cognitione di tutti gli tuoni di canto figurato* (Venice 1525), and *Compendio di molti dubbi segreti et sentenze intorno al canto fermo et figurato* (Milan, undated). During the height of polyphony, he already recognized the flaw in composing so that all voices sing together. He also contributed to solving the problem of acoustic relationships and the temperament of the octave's sounds.
