BARTEI, GIROLAMO. - A musician of the Augustinian Order, born in Arezzo around 1560. The date of his death is unknown. From 1592 to 1598 he was maestro di cappella at the Arezzo cathedral. He then moved to Florence. From 1604 to 1607 he was in Volterra, and in 1608 he was called to Rome, where he served as maestro di cappella at the church of S. Agostino. He was also organist at Orvieto and Marino.
He published the Responsories for Holy Week in equal voices in 1607; Four Masses for eight voices in 1608; Motets for two voices in 1609; the Concertos for two voices in 1618; the Ricercars for two voices in the same year; and the Magnificats for 4 and 5 voices in 1600.
