BARTEI, GIROLAMO. – Musician of the Order of the Augustinians, born in Arezzo around 1560. The date of his death is unknown. From 1592 to 1598 he was chapel master at the cathedral of Arezzo. He then moved to Florence. From 1604 to 1607 he was in Volterra, and in 1608 he was called to Rome, where he was chapel master at the church of S. Agostino. He was also an organist in Orvieto and Marino.
He published the Responsories of Holy Week, for equal voices, in 1607; Four Masses for eight voices, in 1608; Motets for two voices, in 1609; the Concertos for two voices, in 1618; the Ricercars for two voices, in the same year; and the Magnificats for 4 and 5 voices, in 1600.
