Asolo

ASOLO. - A small municipality in the Veneto, in the hills of Treviso. It was an episcopal see at the end of the 6th century, when its bishop was among the schismatics in the dispute of the Three Chapters. Another bishop took part in the Council of Mantua in 827. When, however, Otto I in 969 united the castle of A. with the see of Treviso, the bishopric had by then ceased to exist, and the attempts made by the canons of that collegiate church during the 17th century to obtain the privilege of co-cathedral status with Treviso were in vain.
