Avanzini, Pietro

AVANZINI, PIETRO. - Priest, b. in Rome in 1832 and d. there on 7 Apr. 1874. In 1865 he began the publication of the Acta Sanctae Sedis (v.); and in 1871 he founded the Seminary of Sts. Peter and Paul for Foreign Missions, which in 1926 was merged with the Institute for Foreign Missions of Milan, assuming the title of "Pontifical" (v. MISSIONI ESTERE, PONTIFICIO ISTITUTO per le). A respected canonist, he wrote an extensive commentary on the Apostolic Constitution Apostolicae Sedis (v.), of which various editions exist (Rome 1870 etc.).
