Aumaître, Pierre

AUMAÎTRE, PIERRE. - One of the last martyrs of Korea. Born on 8 April 1837 at Aizecq, he entered the Paris Foreign Missions in 1859, became a priest in 1862, and set out that same year for Korea, where he carried out his ministry in the province of Kyeng-heul: when the persecution of 1866 broke out, to avoid reprisals against his Christians he gave himself up, and was taken to prison: tortured, he confessed the faith and was therefore condemned to death by decapitation, carried out on 30 March 1866, together with Msgr. Daveluy (v.) and Fr. M. L. Huin. The acts of the apostolic processes were sent to Rome.
