AUMAÎTRE, PIERRE. – One of the last martyrs of Korea. Born on 8 April 1837 in Aizecq, he entered the Paris Foreign Missions in 1859 and was ordained a priest in 1862. That same year he departed for Korea, where he carried out his ministry in the province of Kyeng-heul. When persecution broke out in 1866, in order to spare his Christians reprisals, he surrendered himself and was taken to prison. Tortured, he confessed the faith and was consequently condemned to death by beheading, carried out on 30 March 1866, together with Msgr. Daveluy (v.) and Fr. M. L. Huin. The records of the apostolic trials were sent to Rome.
