BARDI, GIROLAMO. - Physician, b. at Rapallo in 1600 into a distinguished Genoese family. In 1619 he became a Jesuit, but after five years, on account of his health, he left the Order and went to study at Genoa, where he was soon awarded a doctorate in medicine and in theology. Through the protection of Archbishop Giuliano de' Medici he obtained the title of professor in these two sciences, with a teaching post at Pisa. He also cultivated anatomy, and in 1651, after the death of his father, he went to Rome, where he obtained from Pope Alexander VII permission to practice medicine, despite being a priest. He died in that city in 1667.

He wrote: Epistola de aqua quae ex latere Christi effluxit, in De latere Christi aperto by T. Bartol (Lyons 1646); Medicus politico-catholicus seu medicinae Sacrae, tum cognoscendae tum faciendae (Genoa 1643); Theatrum naturae iatrochymicae rationalis (Rome 1654).
