BARDI, Girolamo. – Physician, born in Rapallo in 1600 to a distinguished Genoese family. In 1619 he entered the Society of Jesus, but after five years, on account of his health, he left the Order and went to study in Genoa, where he soon earned the degree of doctor in medicine and theology. Through the patronage of Archbishop Giuliano de’ Medici he obtained the title of professor in these two sciences, with teaching duties in Pisa. He also cultivated anatomy, and in 1651, after his father’s death, he went to Rome, where he obtained from Pope Alexander VII permission to practice medicine despite being a priest. He died in that city in 1667.
He wrote: Epistola de aqua quae ex latere Christi effluxit, in De latere Christi aperto by T. Bartol (Lyon 1646); Medicus politico-catholicus seu medicinae Sacrae, tum cognoscendae tum faciendae (Genoa 1643); Theatrum naturae iatrochymicae rationalis (Rome 1654).
