BARDI, GIROLAMO. - Physician, born at Rapallo in 1600 into a distinguished Genoese family. In 1619 he became a Jesuit, but after five years, for reasons of health, he left the Order and went to study at Genoa, where he was soon awarded doctorates in medicine and theology. Through the protection of Archbishop Giuliano de' Medici, he obtained the title of professor in these
two sciences, teaching at Pisa. He also cultivated anatomy and in 1651, after his father's death, went to Rome, where he obtained from Pope Alessandro VII permission to practise medicine, although he was a priest. He died in that city in 1667.
He wrote: Epistola de aqua quae ex latere Christi effluxit, in De latere Christi aperto di T. Bartol (Lione 1646); Medicus politico-catholicus seu medicinae Sacrae, tum cognoscendae tum faciendae (Genova 1643); Theatrum naturae iatrochymicae rationalis (Roma 1654).
