BARTOLINI, DOMENICO. — Cardinal, born on 16 May 1813 in Rome, died in Florence on 2 October 1887. Author of various writings of a hagiographical and historical nature, though they are now entirely superseded from a critical standpoint.

His works include Il cimitero d'Aproniano detto anche d'Eugenia su la Via Latina (1840), but corrected and recast by Fr. G. Marchi; La sotterranea basilica di S. Marco (1844); Le catacombe di Siracusa, (1847); Le nuove catacombe di Chiusi, (1852); Sopra l'antico oratorio dei primitivi cristiani della regione dei Marti oggi basilica di S. Cesidio prete e martire presso Trasacco alle sponde del lago Fucino (1855).

In the field of hagiography, his monographs on the acts of the martyrdom of St. Agnese (1858), of Saints Abdon and Sennen (1859), and of St. Cecilia (1867) have lost all value, as has his treatment of the so-called ampoules (v.) of blood (1863).
