BASILIANE. — Daughters of St. Macrina, a congregation of the Byzantine rite, founded, according to the *Statistica della gerarchia e dei Fedeli di rito orientale* (Vatican City 1932, p. 391), in November 1921 at Mezzouiso, in the diocese of Palermo, by the hieromonk Nilus Borgia of Grottaferrata, and approved by a decree of 19 July 1930 issued by the Archbishop of Monreale upon the establishment of the mother house at Palazzo Adriano, located in the aforementioned diocese. Their purpose is the education of young women and the apostolate of charity among the people.
