BASILIANE. – Daughters of St. Macrina, a congregation of the Byzantine rite, founded, according to the Statistics of the Hierarchy and Faithful of the Eastern Rite (Vatican City 1932, p. 391), in November 1921 at Mezzoluso, in the diocese of Palermo, by the hieromonk Nilo Borgia of Grottaferrata, and approved by decree of 19 July 1930 by the archbishop of Monreale, when the mother house at Palazzo Adriano, situated in the aforementioned diocese, was established. Their purpose is the education of young women and the apostolate of charity among the people.
