BERAZA, BLAS. - Jesuit and Spanish theologian, b. at Begoña (Vizcaya) on 21 Dec. 1862, d. at Marneffe (Belgium) on 25 Jan. 1936.
He entered the novitiate of the Castile province on 8 Jan. 1881 and was assigned to the teaching of dogmatic theology, first at the Pontifical University of St Jerome in Burgos (1898-1904), then at the major college of his religious province in Oña, which he followed to Belgium at the time of the expulsion of the Jesuits from Spain in 1932.
His principal works are four volumes of the *Currus theologicus oniensis*: *De gratia Christi* (Bilbao 1916, 2nd ed. 1929); *De Deo creante* (ibid. 1921); *De Deo elevante, de peccato originali, de novissimis* (ibid. 1924); *De virtutibus infusis* (ibid. 1929). While the scope of his treatment far exceeds that found in ordinary manuals, the author does not seek to produce a work of a personal nature or stamp; its qualities lie in the richness of the bibliographical data and sources cited, the security of traditional doctrine, and a lively pedagogical sense.
