BERNARDO of PORTO. — Cardinal, lived in the 12th century. Magister Bernardus, as Gerhoh of Reichersberg calls him (De investigatione antichristi, I, 53), was under Innocent II and, as is to be believed, during the latter, calmer years of that pontificate, prior of the cloister at the Lateran and was appointed by Eugenius III (1145) cardinal priest of the title of S. Clemente. During the pontificate of Eugenius he appears several times as archpriest of S. Peter. Toward the end of 1158 he is found as cardinal bishop of Porto and S. Rufina. He died, as is gathered from the Cassinese Necrology (L. A. Muratori, Rer. Ital. Script., VII, Milan 1725, p. 944), on 18 August 1176.
