BERNARD II of BADEN, Blessed, - Son of Margrave James V, born around 1430. Although he was the husband of the daughter of the King of France, Charles VII, he led a very retired life with her. Having left the hereditary estates to his brother, he visited the noble courts of France and Savoy to gather aid for the Crusade against the Turks, having been charged with this by Emperor Frederick III. While on his way to Rome, he fell ill and died at Moncalieri on July 15, 1458. His cult from time immemorial was confirmed by Clement XIV on Sept. 16, 1769.
