BERNARD II of Baden, Blessed. — Son of Margrave James V, born around 1430. Although married to the daughter of King Charles VII of France, he led a very retired life with her. Having relinquished his hereditary goods to his brother, he visited the noble courts of France and Savoy to gather aid for the Crusade against the Turks, entrusted to him by Emperor Frederick III. While traveling to Rome, he fell ill and died at Moncalieri on 15 July 1458. His cult from time immemorial was confirmed by Clement XIV on 16 September 1769.
