BOCCHI, GIROLAMO. — Scholar, often incorrectly referred to as "Boutrius," "Bourti," etc., born in Florence ca. 1595. He was initially a Conventual Franciscan, then at twenty and for nearly the rest of his life a Capuchin (1614), finally returning (ca. 1655) to the Conventuals. He died during Holy Week, between March 21–27, 1660, in Pomarance (near Volterra), where he was preaching Lent. Well-versed in history, chronology, and biblical cosmology, he was also a good preacher.
He authored a vast historical-biblical-theological encyclopedia: *Monopantheon harmonicum et chronologicum... ex divinis et humanis litteris... compilata et ad normam psalterii decem chordarum coaptata...*, divided into 2 parts and 10 books (Part 1, Bologna 1654; it is unknown whether Part 2 was printed), including treatises on biblical chronology and history (Books II.1 and 4), dogmatics, anthropology, cosmography, and universal geography. Other works of his are noted on the history of heresies, religious and military orders, *Le bellezze della città di Fiorenza*, etc.
