BOLGI, ANDREA. — Sculptor, born in Carrara on 22 June 1606, died of the plague in Naples in 1656; he was a pupil and collaborator of Tacca. With Bernini he worked in the Raimondi Chapel in S. Pietro in Montorio and on the monument to Countess Matilde in S. Pietro in Vaticano, where his best-known work is also found: the colossal statue of s. Elena in one of the niches of the piers supporting the dome. Also noteworthy is one of his statues of the Virgin in Massa.
