BILIVERT (BILIVERTI), Giovanni. — Painter, born according to some at Maastricht, but more likely in Florence to a Flemish father in 1576, died in Florence in July 1644. He was a pupil of Ludovico Cardi, known as Il Cigoli. Among his principal works of sacred subject are *The Angel Refusing Tobiah’s Gifts* in the Pitti Gallery and *The Chastity of Joseph* in the Uffizi. Well known is the canvas with *Lucretia and Tarquin* in the gallery of the Accademia di S. Luca in Rome. B. was an excellent draughtsman and at the same time possessed a very keen sense of chromatic values.
