CAPORELLA, PIETRO PAOLO. - Conventual Minor Scotist theologian, born at Potenza in the second half of the fifteenth century, died at Crotone in 1556. Regent of the Studium of Palermo, an able writer and active theologian at the Council of Trent. He established in Palermo the Monte di
Pietà for poor orphan girls and the « Compagnia dei Bianchi » (ecclesiastics and nobles) for assistance to those condemned to death. He was created bishop of Crotone in Calabria on 28 Sept. 1552.
Among his writings are remembered the Quaestio de matrimonio et divortio Henrici VIII (Naples 1531) and the Operum infidelium fideliumque in peccato manentium elucidatio (ibid. 1542).
