CAPORELLA, PIETRO PAOLO. — Minor Scotist Conventual theologian, born in Potenza in the second half of the 15th century, died in Crotone in 1556. Regent of the Studium in Palermo, a skilled writer and active theologian at the Council of Trent. He founded in Palermo the Monte di Pietà for poor orphan girls and the “Compagnia dei Bianchi” (composed of ecclesiastics and nobles) for the assistance of those condemned to death. He was appointed Bishop of Crotone in Calabria on 28 September 1552.
Among his writings are remembered the *Quaestio de matrimonio et divortio Henrici VIII* (Naples 1531) and the *Operum infidelium fideliumque in peccato manentium elucidatio* (ibid. 1542).
