CHELODI, GIOVANNI. — Canon lawyer, born in Cavalese on 1 June 1882, died in Trento on 31 May 1922. Ordained a priest in 1905, he had the opportunity to display his polemical spirit in the newspaper Il Trentino, whose co-editorship he assumed with Hon. Alcide De Gasperi. He subsequently studied in Vienna and at the Gregorian University of Rome, where he obtained a degree in canon law. On returning to his homeland, he became chancellor of the archiepiscopal Curia, and then professor of law at the Major Seminary, until his premature death.
He wrote the following works (excellent and highly esteemed): Ius de personis (Trento 1922; 3rd ed., edited by P. Ciprotti, Vicenza-Trento 1942); Ius poenale (Trento 1921; 5th ed., edited by P. Ciprotti, Vicenza-Trento 1943); Ius matrimoniale (ibid. 1923; 5th ed., edited by P. Ciprotti, Vicenza 1947). Alberto Scola
