Coudrin, Pierre-Marie-Joseph

COUDRIN, PIERRE-MARIE-JOSEPH. - Born at Coussay-les-Bois (Poitiers) on 1 March 1768, died in Paris on 27 March 1837. After his studies at the college of Châtellerault and at the University of Poitiers, with the advent of the French Revolution he had to leave the seminary for not having taken the oath to the civil constitution of the clergy. In 1792 he was ordained a priest in Paris. During the Revolution he was tireless in bringing help wherever his mission called him. With Henriette Aymer de la Chevalerie he founded the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts (v.) in the rue Picpus. He stood beside many bishops in re-establishing religious life, being noted everywhere for piety, prudence in governance, and an apostolic and Roman spirit. The cause for his beatification is in progress.
