COUDRIN, PIERRE-MARIE-JOSEPH. - Born at Coussay-les-Bois (Poitiers) on 9 March 1768, died in Paris on 27 March 1837. After studies at the college of Châtellerault and the University of Poitiers, with the advent of the French Revolution he left the seminary rather than take the oath to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy. In 1792 he was ordained priest in Paris. During the Revolution he was indefatigable in bringing aid wherever his mission called him. With Henriette Aymer de la Chevalerie he founded in the Rue Picpus the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts (v.). He stood beside many bishops in restoring religious life, everywhere winning notice for his piety, prudence in governance and Roman apostolic spirit. The cause of his beatification is under way.
