Czerny, Albin

CZERNY, ALBIN. - Historian, b. 19 Feb. 1821 in Vienna, d. 7 July 1900 at St. Florian. Having entered the abbey of St. Florian in 1841, he was a professor and librarian there. He arranged and catalogued the very rich collection of manuscripts and incunabula owned by the abbey. He also concerned himself with the history of Upper Austria.

Among his works should be mentioned: Die Handschriften der Stiftsbibliothek St. Florian (Linz 1871); Die Bibliothek des Chorherrenstiftes St. Florian (ibid. 1874); Bilder aus der Zeit der Bauernunruhen in Oberösterreich 1626, 1632, 1648 (ibid. 1876); Kunst und Kunstgewerbe im Stifte St. Florian von den ältesten Zeiten bis zur Gegenwart (ibid. 1886); Die Anfänge der Reformation in der Stadt Steyr 1520-27 (ibid. 1894).
