CZERNY, ALBIN. — Historian, born on 19 February 1821 in Vienna, died on 7 July 1900 at St-Florian. He entered the abbey of St-Florian in 1841, where he was a professor and librarian. He arranged and catalogued the abbey’s extraordinarily rich collection of manuscripts and incunabula. He also devoted himself to the history of Upper Austria.
Among his works, the following should be mentioned: Die Handschriften der Stiftsbibliothek St. Florian (Linz 1871); Die Bibliothek des Chorherrenstiftes St. Florian (there 1874); Bilder aus der Zeit der Bauernunruhen in Oberösterreich 1626, 1632, 1648 (there 1876); Kunst und Kunstgewerbe im Stifte St. Florian von den ältesten Zeiten bis zur Gegenwart (there 1886); Die Anfänge der Reformation in der Stadt Steyr 1520-27 (there 1894).
