DÜRR, LORENZ. - Exegete, Assyriologist, scholar of Oriental archaeology and of the history of religions, b. at Oberschwarzach (Bavaria) on 7 Apr. 1886, d. at Ratisbona on 26 Feb. 1939. A pious and most learned priest, he was Privatdozent in the Old Testament at Bonn (1921), professor at Braunsberg (1925), Frisinga (1933), and Ratisbona (1938). He distinguished himself particularly in the elucidatory comparison of concepts, texts, and institutions of the Old Testament with those of the religions of the ancient East.

From 1919 he collaborated on the Theologische Revue, and from 1924 he competently provided in the Jahrbuch für Liturgiewissenschaft the literary survey concerning Beziehungen zum Alten Orient und zum israelitisch-jüdischen Kult.
