ELBECQUE, Norbert d'. - Dominican theologian and writer, born in Hainaut (Belgium) in 1551, died in Namur on 14 Oct. 1714. He was professor of philosophy at Louvain and of moral theology at Mons en Hainaut; in 1760 he became a member of the first college of theologians attached to the Casamantesca Library. Returning to his homeland in 1767, he served as regent of the general study at Louvain and later as prior at Namur.
Among his works are remembered: *De advententia requisita ad peccandum formaliter* (Liège 1695); *Disturbio schematis Wichiani* (Antwerp 1708, followed by an appendix in 1709). d'E. also edited the works of F. Sylvius in 6 vols. (Antwerp 1698), the *Compendium* of the moral theology of Noël Alexandre in 4 vols. (Rome 1705), and the *Historia Congregationalum de Auxiliis* by Fr. G. Serry (Antwerp 1709).
