THOMAS ELI (Thomas ELI). - Dominican theologian and writer, born in Naples c. 1486, died there c. 1570. He served as prior of the convent of St Peter the Martyr in Naples, then as provincial of Naples (1532), for several years regent of the Dominican Studium, and twice vice-chancellor of the faculty of theology at the University of Naples.

He wrote: *Piorum clvpeus adversus veterum recentiorumque haereticorum pravitatem fabrefacius* (Venice 1563); *Christianae religionis arcana* (ibid. 1566).
