ENGELTAL. - Ancient Dominican monastery in the diocese of Eichstätt (Bavaria). A group of Beguines led by a certain Adelaide founded this monastery around 1240; it was donated by Ulrich von Königstein. Innocent IV confirmed it on 10 October 1248.

The community is documented as a center of Dominican mysticism in three writings Von der genaden überlast (in which it also deals with the foundation), in the "revelations" of the admirable Christina Ebner and in the visions of the generous and gentle Adelaide Langmann. Many daughters of Nuremberg patrician families entered E. Raymond of Capua and Gaetano gave norms for the monastic reform. In 1565-66 the community dissolved, and its assets served for the endowment of the Academy and later University of Altdorf.
