FASTIDIO. - A Pelagian, living at the beginning of the 5th century, "Britannorum episcopus", who "scripsit ad Fatalem quendam de vita Christiana librum et alium de viduitate servanda, sana et Deo digna doctrina" (Gennadius, De viris illustr., 56: PL 58, 1091). What the see of the bishop of the Britons was is not known.

The De vita Christiana is not to be confused, according to J. Morin, with the treatise of the same name included among the works of St. Augustine (PL 40, 1031-26); and the De viduitate servanda would have been lost; it seems, however, that at least a good echo of it remains, in a short work of Caesarius of Arles (PL 67, 1094-98). According to the same Morin, other works as well should be attributed to him. In the new edition, in fact, by C. P. Caspari of the Corpus Pelagianum, there are six writings (two letters without a heading, Tractatus de divitiis, De malis doctoribus et operibus Fidei et de iudicio futuro, De possibilitate non peccandi, De castitate), all of Pelagian tint and to be attributed to the same author. Now, Morin recognized in the first letter the De doctrina Christiana of F.; therefore the other writings too, being by the same author, must be attributed to the same F. This conclusion is accepted also by K. Künste and by J. Baer.
