rice and maize, intended for domestic consumption; sugar cane, tobacco, hemp (abaca), and the cacao palm, which supply exports; especially the latter, for which the Philippines enjoy world primacy. The livestock resources (swine, buffaloes) are considerable, the profits from fishing noteworthy, and the forest (valuable timber) and mineral resources (gold, silver, coal, iron, chromite, manganese, copper, etc.) enormous; both scarcely touched; industrial development, however, still extremely modest.
Of the population, predominantly Malay but strongly mixed (negritos, mestizos), small minorities
a nonagenarian before June 1690.
Having entered the Order of S. Domenico in Rome (the convent of S. Maria sopra Minerva), he taught for several years and with acclaim in the convents of Perugia and Rome, earning the Order’s highest recognition with the mastership in S. Theology.
He left valuable works, among which the following should be mentioned: Relctiones quatuor theologicae: I. De canis specterum intelligibilium angelici intellectus; II. De acta augmentativo caritatis; III. De supernaturalitate Gratiae et visionis beatificae et caritatis; IV. De distinctione specifico angelorum (Rome, 1814).
