GALAMINI, AGOSTINO. - Master General of the Order of Friars Preachers and cardinal, b. at Brisighella (Ravenna) in 1552, d. at Osimo on 4 (or 6?) Sept. 1639.

He had already been inquisitor at Brescia, Piacenza, Genoa and Milan, when on 28 Oct. 1604 he was elected commissary general of the Holy Office, and three years later he became Master of the Sacred Palace. In the four-year period 1608-12 he was head of the Dominican Order, which he governed with energy, travelling tirelessly. Meanwhile (7 Aug. 1611) he was elevated to the purple and took the title of St. Mary in Aracoeli. On 1 Feb. 1613 he was appointed to the episcopal see of Recanati and Loreto, and on 29 Apr. 1620 transferred to that of Osimo.
