GALAMINI, AGOSTINO. - Master General of the Order of Preachers and cardinal, b. at Brisighella (Ravenna) in 1552, d. at Osimo on 4 (or 6?) Sept. 1639.
He had already been inquisitor at Brescia, Piacenza, Genoa, and Milan when, on 28 Oct. 1604, he was elected Commissary General of the Holy Office; three years later he became Master of the Sacred Palace. During the four-year period 1608–12 he was head of the Dominican Order, which he governed energetically, travelling indefatigably. Meanwhile (7 Aug. 1611) he was raised to the cardinalate and took the title of S. Maria in Araccoli. On 1 Feb. 1613 he was appointed to the episcopal see of Recanati and Loreto, and on 29 Apr. 1620 transferred to that of Osimo.
