GALAMINI, AGOSTINO. – Master General of the Order of Preachers and cardinal, b. at Brisighella (Ravenna) in 1552, d. at Osimo on 4 (6–7) Sept. 1639.
He had already served as inquisitor at Brescia, Piacenza, Genoa and Milan when, on 28 Oct. 1604, he was elected Commissary General of the Holy Office and three years later became Master of the Sacred Palace. During the four-year period 1608–12 he was at the head of the Order, which he governed with vigour, travelling tirelessly. Meanwhile (7 Aug. 1611) he was raised to the purple and took the title of S. Maria in Aracoeli. On 19 Feb. 1613 he was appointed to the episcopal see of Recanati and Loreto, and on 29 Apr. 1620 transferred to that of Osimo.
