FORNARI STRADA, Maria Vittoria, Blessed. - Foundress of a religious order, b. in Genoa in 1562, d. there on 15 Dec. 1617. Married, she had 6 children, of whom 5 became religious. Left a widow after 9 years, she was able to realize her religious ideal, founding in 1604, with some companions, the Congregation of the Annunziate Celestine (commonly called le Turchine from the color of the habit), dedicated to a penitential and contemplative life. The Institute received the approval of Clement VIII, Paul V, Gregory XV, Urban VIII. The foundress was beatified by Leo XII on 2 Sept. 1828; her feast falls on 12 Sept.
