Franzini, Antonio

FRANZINI, ANTONIO. - Ascetical writer, b. at Mariana (Corsica) on 12 Jan. 1696, d. at Naples on 27 Apr. 1764. Admitted to the Congregation of the Mission in Rome, already a priest, on 27 Oct. 1723, he was for several years director of the novitiate of his community.

At that time he wrote the Diario spirituale (Naples 1778), a selection of edifying deeds, drawn from the lives of the saints and suitably linked by ascetical considerations. It had several editions; into French it was translated by the Sulpician Lassaune and published under the title: L'heureuse année, on l'année sanctifiée par la méditation des sentences et des exemples des saints (Rouen 1798).
