FERON-VRAU, CAMILLE. — Born in Tourcoing on 23 July 1831, died in Lille on 30 March 1908. A physician, he founded for doctors the Association of St Luke and the pious Association of the Sick, whose bulletin is still flourishing. He shared with his brother-in-law, Philibert Vrau, the ideal of the apostolate and used his wealth to promote Catholic and social works. Among other things, almost single-handedly, he provided for the establishment of the faculty of medicine at the Catholic University of Lille and its numerous affiliated institutions.
Having made himself an apostle of the directives issued by Leo XIII concerning the workers’ question, he promoted the Association of Patrons of the North and founded the Industrial School, thus seeking to give life to Christian patronages. He devoted himself with particular zeal to the Work of Our Lady of Treille, patroness of Lille, and to the Work of Our Lady of Lourdes. Pius XI marked the introduction of his cause of beatification on 17 June 1930. Annibale Bugnini
