FÉRON-VRAU, CAMILLE. — Born in Tourcoing on 23 July 1831, died in Lille on 30 March 1908. A physician, he founded for doctors the Association of St Luke and the pious Association of the Sick, whose bulletin is still flourishing. Together with his brother-in-law, Philibert Vrau, he shared the ideal of apostolate and used his wealth to promote Catholic and social works. Among other things, he virtually single-handedly provided for the establishment of the medical faculty at the Catholic University of Lille and its numerous annexes.
Having become an apostle of the directives given by Leo XIII regarding the workers' question, he promoted the Association of Employers of the North, founded the Industrial School, thus seeking to give life to Christian employers' associations. He devoted particular devotion to the Work of Our Lady of the Treille, patroness of Lille, and to the Work of Our Lady of Lourdes. Pius XI opened his cause for beatification on 17 June 1930.
