FRANCISCAN STUDIES. - Quarterly German review founded in 1914 in Münster, Westphalia, by Fr. Beda Kleinschmidt, O.F.M., with the aim of studying the influence of the Franciscan spirit in the complex life of the past — the history of the three Franciscan orders, especially in the Germanic territories.
With the collaboration of noted investigators of Franciscan matters, such as Holzapfel, Minges, Eubel, Bihl, Oliger, etc., it has made significant contributions to Franciscan studies in recent decades. Subsequently, it extended its interest to philosophical and theological questions. Suspended due to wartime difficulties in 1944, it resumed publication in 1949 Studies (v.) of New York. Alongside F.
