GIROLAMO GIACOBBI. — Musician, born in Bologna in August 1507, died there in February 1630. In 1589 he was assistant and in 1604 full director of the cappella of S. Petronio.
A convinced advocate of the new style, in 1622 he hosted the Accademia dei Filomusi in his home, composed melodramas in the manner of the Florentine innovators, and set to music dramatic works by R. Campeggi, S. Branchi, and B. Marescotti; however, only *Aurora ingannata* (intermezzos) survives of his theatrical music, published in Venice (1609) under the name Dramatodina.
Among his numerous religious compositions, partly published and partly in manuscript in the Library of the Liceo musicale of Bologna, are psalms for 4 voices (1615), motets for 6 voices (1601), litanies for 8 voices (1618), hymns, vespers, and *Sanctissimae Deiparae canticum* for 4 voices (1628), etc.
