GIOVANNA, wife of CHUZA. — Wife of an official (ἐπίτροπος) Herod Antipas (v.).
She was healed by Jesus and, together with other pious women, followed him and cared for him (ἀνακωδία), spending from her own means, during the preaching in Galilee (Lk. 8:3).
G. was among the women who went to embalm the body of Jesus on the morning of the Resurrection (Lk. 24:10). In the two Lucan passages G. is mentioned alongside Mary Magdalene. Perhaps St. Luke, who alone mentions her, obtained from her information about Jesus’ ministry. Feast on 24 May in the Roman Martyrology.
