GIULIANO SABA, saint. - Died about 377. He is commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on 14 January and 18 October; on the latter date also among the Greeks. St. Giovanni Crisostomo recalls him in a homily delivered at Antiochia to listeners who had known him. Born of poor parents, he was a rustic, unlearned man, but full of virtue.
He withdrew to a hut on the borders of Osroene, living in penance. Many Christians, attracted by his holiness, flocked to him in order to share his way of life. He built a basilica on Mount Sinai, at the place where, according to tradition, God appeared to Mosè. During the reign of Valente, the Arians spread the report that G. shared their ideas; therefore, at the request of the Christians, he went to that city to expose their calumny.
