GUIDETTO. - Architect and sculptor, active between the last decades of the 12th century and the first half of the following one. Probably Lombard by birth, he worked in Lucca (1204), where he linked his name to the facade of that Cathedral.

His style can also be found in the decorations of the facade of S. Michele; his collaboration on the works of the Pieve di Prato is uncertain, where in 1211 there was a Guido, a sculptor already active in S. Martino in Lucca.

The sculptures and decorations of the facade of the cathedral of Lucca, although falling within the orbit of Pisan style, reveal a more vivid and sharp plasticism and an exceedingly rich and complex decorative development, such as to justify the hypothesis of the artist's northern origin and of his Lombard training. The Pisan-Luccan style, thanks to G., spread through various areas of Tuscany, in the Valdelsa and in the area of Arezzo.
