GABRIEL DE HENAO. — Jesuit theologian, born in Valladolid on 20 July 1612, died in Salamanca on 11 February 1704. For many years he was professor of philosophy, dogmatic and moral theology, and Sacred Scripture in various houses of the Order.
His Eucharistic treatises are well known and appreciated: *Misae sacrificio divino atque tremendo* (3 vols., Salamanca 1658, 1659, 1661); *De Eucharistiae Sacramento venerabili atque sanctissimo* (Lyon 1665). He defended Molinism in the works: *Scientia media historice propugnata* (Lyon 1655; 2nd ed., greatly enlarged, Salamanca 1665); *Scientia media theologia defensa* (Lyon 1674). The work: *Averiguaciones de las Antigüedades de Cantabria* (Biscay, Guipúzcoa, Álava [Saragossa 1637]), apart from its historical value regarding the origins of the Cantabri, provides very valuable information on important families and ethnic groups.
