Jacarezinho, Diocese of

JACAREZINHO, DIOCESI of. — Diocese and city in the State of Paraná in Brazil.

It has an area of approximately 100,000 sq. km., with 600,000 inhabitants, of whom 500,000 are Catholics; it has 25 parishes, with 11 diocesan priests and 35 religious priests, 2 male and 11 female religious communities (1948).

The diocese was created by Pope Pius XI through the apostolic constitution Quam in dies of 10 May 1926, by partitioning the archdiocese of Curityba, elevating to cathedral status the church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and to s. Sebastiano. The diocese is a suffragan of Curityba.
