KMETKO, Karol. – Archbishop, b. 11–12 Dec. 1875 at Dolné Držkovce, d. 22 Dec. 1948 at Nitra (Slovakia). Ordained priest in 1899, he became a doctor of theology in 1906, then parish priest at Teplička near Žilina and deputy to the Parliament of Prague. In 1920 he was elected Bishop of Nitra, and in 1944 appointed Archbishop ad personam. He devoted himself in a particular way to promoting, supporting and propagating the work of foreign missions. He left a scholarly study of missionology: Svetové misie (World Missions), 2 vols., Nitra 1942.
