LANDOLFO SAGACE. - Perhaps a monk, who lived between the 10th and 11th centuries. Nothing is known of his personality: it is certain only that he wrote before 1023, the year of the death of Emperor Basil, whom he presents as still living in his Historia Miscella; he probably lived in southern Italy.
He interpolated the Historia Romana of Paul. He did not rework the texts from which he drew, but copied them in full. Among his sources, in addition to Paul, are mentioned: Orosius, St. Jerome, Anastasius, Cassiodorus, Jordanes, the Venerable Bede; in the choice of the events he narrated, he was more concerned with political than ecclesiastical history.
