LANDOLFUS SAGAX. - Perhaps a monk, who lived between the 10th and 11th centuries. Nothing is known of his personality: it is certain only that he wrote before 1023, the year of the death of the emperor Basil, whom he gives as living in his Historia Miscella; he probably lived in southern Italy.
He interpolated the Historia Romana of Paul. He did not rework the texts from which he drew, but copied them in their entirety. Among his sources, besides Paul, are remembered: Orosius, St. Jerome, Anastasius, Cassiodorus, Jordanes, the Venerable Bede; in the choice of the facts narrated, he was more concerned with political history than with ecclesiastical history.
