LANDOLFO SAGACE. - Perhaps a monk, he lived between the 10th and 11th centuries. Nothing is known of his personality: the only certainty is that he wrote before 1023, the year of the death of Emperor Basilio, whom he mentions as still living in his Historia Miscella; he probably lived in southern Italy.
He interpolated Paolo’s Historia Romana. He did not rework the texts from which he drew, but copied them in their entirety. Among his sources, besides Paolo, are Orosio, s. Girolamo, Anastasio, Cassiodoro, Iordanes, and the ven. Beda; in his selection of narrated events, he was more concerned with political than with ecclesiastical history.
