LINO da PARMA. - Franciscan friar, born in Spalato (Dalmatia) on 30 August 1866, died in Parma on 14 May 1924. Parma became his adopted homeland, where he first arrived in 1891 for a few months, and definitively in June 1893.
During this thirty-year period, as chaplain to the parish of the Most Holy Annunciation and to the judicial and penal prisons, and as director of the Lambruschini reformatory at the Certosa for delinquents, he came into contact with every kind of misery and devoted himself with sublime dedication to the material and spiritual well-being of the unfortunate. During the Red Week of June 1914, he exercised energetic moderating action, succeeding in preventing the invasion of churches and the condemnation of those arrested. He died full of zeal, mourned by the entire citizenry. On 25 July 1942, the diocesan informative process for his beatification was initiated in Parma.
