LINO da PARMA. — Of the Friars Minor, born at Spalato (Dalmatia) on 30 Aug. 1866, died at Parma on 14 May 1924. His adopted homeland was Parma, where he first came in 1891 for a few months, and permanently in June 1893.
During these thirty years, as chaplain of the popular parish of the S.ma Annunziata and of the judicial and penal prisons, and director of the Lambruschini reformatory, at the Certosa, for juvenile offenders, he came into contact with every kind of misery and devoted himself with sublime self-sacrifice to the material and spiritual welfare of the unfortunate. During the « red week » of June 1914, he exercised an energetic moderating influence, succeeding in preventing incursions into the churches and the sentencing of those arrested. He died in the full ardour of his activity, mourned by the entire citizenry. On 25 July 1942 the diocesan informative process for his beatification was begun at Parma.
