FRIAR FRANCESCO. - A journal of Franciscan culture, founded in Assisi in 1924 as the official organ of the Religious Committee for the honors of St. Francis of Assisi for the seventh centenary of his death. The first literary editor was Prof. Giovanni Joergensen, assisted by the editor Fr. Vittorino Facchinetti O.F.M. and by Canon Don Sigismondo Spagnoli in the artistic direction.
From this journal, in which scholarly investigations and pages of miscellaneous literature alternate, came the appeals to the artists of Italy, for competitions in painting and sculpture, for the commemorative postage stamp of the centenary, and for literary contests. In 1927 the editorship was taken over by Arnaldo Fortini, mayor of Assisi; in 1928 the journal was transferred to Milan, to the Circolo di cultura francescana, established by Fr. Facchinetti, who served as its editor until 1936. The following year the periodical passed to Rome to the Cattedra francescana (Via Merulana 124), under the editorship of Fr. L. di Stolfi O.F.M.
