FRASSINETTI, Paula, Blessed. - Foundress of the Institute of the Sisters of St. Dorothy, b. in Genoa on 3 March 1809, d. in Rome on 11 June 1882. After a fervent youth she collaborated at Quinto (Genoa) with her brother Giuseppe, a parish priest, when, though feeling a religious vocation but being unable for various reasons to enter a convent, she decided to create, with the generous young women who had joined her, an institute dedicated to the education of youth (v. SUORE DI S. DOROTEE DELLA BEATA F.). Having overcome the difficult beginnings, she made her definitive profession in Genoa in 1846, but already from 1841 she had settled in Rome (S. Onofrio), from where she governed the Congregation until her death, instilling in it a choice spirit, opening conservatories and colleges for girls of every condition in Italy, in Portugal, which she visited, and in Brazil, and facing the persecutions caused by times hostile to religious Congregations with a manly spirit and a trusting abandonment to Providence and to the will of God.
From her writings were extracted: Uno per giorno. Profili spirituali (Naples 1907); Foglioline sparse ossia norme di buon governo (ibid. 1907); Dalle lettere dello S.P.F. (Rome 1918), which show her born for governance and for the educational mission although she did not attend schools: judicious and sure, affectionate and strong.
The process was begun in 1891; the beatification took place on 8 June 1930. Her body rests incorrupt in the mother house of S. Onofrio.
