FRASSINETTI, GIUSEPPE. - Priest, founder of the Sons of Mary Immaculate, b. in Genoa in 1804, died there on 2 January 1868; brother of the blessed Paola F., foundress of the Dorothean Sisters. Ordained a priest in 1827, he exercised the pastoral ministry at St. Peter's in Quinto al Mare and then in the parish of St. Sabina in Genoa, where, elected prior-parish priest in 1839, he remained until his death. To his intense pastoral activity, so much so that he was called the Italian "curé d'Ars," he added that of a writer of pastoral ascetics and a moral theologian. His cause for beatification has been introduced before the Sacred Congregation of Rites.
His works, more than a hundred, have been collected in a complete edition edited by the priest G. Capurro. His Compendio della teologia morale di s. Alfonso M. de Ligorio, published in Genoa in 1865-66, issued for the 4th time while the author was still alive, has reached its 11th edition (Turin 1948) with the adaptation to the CIC, carried out by the fathers F. M. Cappello and A. Gennaro.
