LIPA, DIOCESI di. — In the Philippine Islands.
It has an area of 5,159 sq. km, with 816,528 inhabitants, of whom 731,679 are Catholics. It comprises 70 parishes served by 82 diocesan priests and 24 religious, one seminary, 3 male and 10 female religious communities (Annuario Pontificio, 1951, p. 249).
The diocese of L. was created by Pius X by decree of the S. Congregazione Concistoriale of 10 April 1910, assigning to it the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Tayabas, Mari, Dunque, and Mindore. It is a suffragan of Manila; the episcopal see is at Batangas, and the Cathedral is dedicated to St Sebastian.
