Diocese of Lipa
In the Philippine Islands.
It has an area of 5,159 sq. km. with 816,528 inhabitants, of whom 731,679 are Catholics. It comprises 70 parishes served by 82 diocesan priests and 24 religious, one seminary, 3 male and 10 female religious communities (Annuario Pontificio, 1951, p. 249).
The diocese of L. was created by Pius X by decree of the Sacred Consistorial Congregation of 10 Apr. 1910, assigning to it the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Tayabas, Mari, Duncu and Mindoro. It is a suffragan of Manila; the episcopal see is at Batangas, the cathedral being dedicated to St. Sebastian.
