Lolo, Apostolic Prefecture of

LOLO, APOSTOLIC PREFECTURE of. – In the Belgian Congo, entrusted to the Order of the Premonstratensians (Tongerloo Abbey in Belgium), erected on 22 February 1937 in a small territory detached from the apostolic vicariate of Buta.

It has an area of 10,000 sq. km., with 45,000 inhabitants, of whom 16,727 are Catholics. It has 77 churches, of which 3 are parishes, served by 16 religious priests; 2 women’s religious communities, 77 schools; 9 charitable works (including 2 hospitals) and associations of charity and Catholic Action (Ann. Pontif., 1951, p. 715).
