LUKE THE THAUMATURGE, Saint. - He is also called, like Luke the Stylite, "Luke the Younger," but this time in contrast to St. Luke of Messina.

A Greek by birth (890), from the island of Aegina, he always led a solitary life on Mount Ioanizza near Corinth, where he was granted to keep the Holy Eucharist with him. The characteristics of his spirituality were the cheerfulness he showed to guests, the veneration for the monastic habit, and a filial attachment to the See of Rome. Seeking still greater solitude, he came at last to the place Soterion (Σατήριον), where he died (c. 946). The Constantinopolitan synaxarion commemorates him on 7 February.
