MACNABB, VINCENT. - Dominican theologian and preacher, b. at Portaferry (Ireland) on 8 July 1868, d. in London on 17 June 1943. For forty years he taught philosophy, dogmatic theology and exegesis in the London convent. The introduction of the teaching of St. Thomas in the University of London is due to him. He was an original and prolific writer (some thirty works) and a highly individual controversialist. In his noted lectures at Hyde Park he gained great popularity and was considered one of the most eminent men of the Catholic clergy of England.

Among the principal works: Infallibility (London 1925); The New Testament witness to St Peter (ibid. 1928; Italian trans., Brescia 1943); The New Testament witness to Our Blessed Lady (London 1930; Italian trans., Brescia 1939); The Church and reunion (London 1937); Frontiers of faith and reason (ibid. 1937); A life of Our Lord (ibid. 1938); Mary of Nazareth (ibid. 1940).
