LAWRENCE OF RIPAFRATTA, Blessed. - Dominican, b. at Ripafratta (Pisa) on 24 March 1359, d. at Pistoia on 28 Sept. 1457. He received the religious habit at Pisa in 1379 (approx.). Together with the bl. Giovanni Dominici he was one of the most active reformers of the Order in Italy.

For many years master of novices at Cortona, he had as disciples St. Antoninus, the bl. Angelico and the bl. Pietro Cappucci. He was also prior of the convent of Fabriano: in that city he distinguished himself by his care of the plague-stricken. He was vicar of the Congregation of the reformed convents (1443). Admired for the wisdom and prudence of his counsels, for his apostolic zeal and the holiness of his life, he died at almost a hundred years of age. St. Antoninus wove a magnificent eulogy of him (in a letter dated 1 Oct. 1457). He is buried in the church of S. Domenico at Pistoia. His cult was approved by Pius IX (4 Apr. 1851). Feast on 28 Sept.
