SEBASTIANO MAGGI, Blessed. — A Dominican, born in Brescia in 1414, died in Genoa in November 1496. He entered the religious life in his hometown in 1430, served as prior in many convents (Bologna, Mantua, Milan, Brescia, Cremona, Vicenza) and twice as vicar general of the Reformed Congregation of Lombardy (1480–81, 1495–96); he founded the convent of “La Rosa” in Milan, now demolished.
An effective preacher, a prudent counsellor, and a strict observer of the Rule, he zealously devoted himself to the restoration of monastic discipline. He was a friend and confessor of G. Savonarola. His incorrupt body is venerated in S. Maria di Castello in Genoa. His cult was approved by Clement XIII (15 Apr. 1760). Feast: 16 Dec.
