MAGGI, SEBASTIANO, blessed. - Dominican, b. at Brescia in 1414, d. at Genoa in Nov. 1496. He entered religious life in his native city in 1430, was prior in many convents (Bologna, Mantova, Milano, Brescia, Cremona, Vicenza), and twice vicar general of the reformed Congregation of Lombardia (1480-81, 1495-96); he founded in Milano the convent of «La Rosa», now demolished.
An effective preacher, prudent counsellor, and strict observer of the Rule, he devoted himself zealously to the restoration of monastic discipline. He was a friend and confessor of G. Savonarola. His incorrupt body is venerated in S. Maria di Castello at Genoa. His cult was approved by Clemente XIII (15 Apr. 1760). Feast day: 16 Dec.
