LEDESMA, PEDRO de. - Dominican theologian, born in Salamanca ca. 1550, died there on 9 Sept. 1616. He taught theology first at Segovia, then at Avila, and finally at Salamanca, where from 1604 he held the "Durandus Chair" and in 1608 the second Chair of St. Thomas, which he held until his death. His probabilism follows that of his master, B. Medina.
He took part in the famous *de auxiliis* controversy, publishing the *Tractatus de divinae gratiae auxiliis* (Salamanca 1611). He also wrote: the classic *De magno matrimonii sacramento super doctrinam s. Thomae* (ibid. 1592); *Tractatus de divina perfectione, infinitate et magnitudine* (ibid. 1596); *Primera parte de la Summa* (ibid. 1598); *Segunda parte de la Summa* (ibid. 1598). The first part was translated into Latin by R. de Ladesou (Douai 1630), the second by N. cola della Croce (Cologne 1618).
