LEDESMA, PEDRO de. - Dominican theologian, b. in Salamanca ca. 1550, d. there on 9 September 1616. He taught theology first at Segovia, then at Avila, then at Salamanca, where from 1604 he occupied the "chair of Durandus" and in 1608 the second chair of St. Thomas, which he held until his death. His probabilism is that of his master B. Medina.

He took part in the famous de auxiliis controversy, publishing the Tractatus de divinae gratiae auxiliis (Salamanca 1611). He also wrote: the classic De magno matrimonii sacramento super doctrinam s. Thomae (ibid. 1592); Tractatus de divina perfectione, infinitate et magnitudine (ibid. 1596); Primera parte de la Summa (ibid. 1598); Segunda parte de la Summa (ibid. 1598). The first part was translated into Latin by R. de Ladesou (Douai 1630), the second by Nicola della Croce (Cologne 1618).
