MANCINI, Maria, Blessed. - Dominican, b. in Pisa ca. 1355, d. there on 22 Jan. 1431. Having become a widow for the second time and having lost her children, she gave herself entirely to God and to the poor, and was repaid with heavenly favors.

She was on terms of friendship and correspondence with St. Catherine of Siena, under whose influence she oriented herself toward the Dominican life. In 1375 she entered the Dominican monastery of S. Croce in Pisa, where, together with the bl. Chiara Gambacorti and six other nuns, she observed the Rule strictly, despite the relaxed life of the rest of the community. After 7 years she moved to the Pisan monastery of S. Domenico, built by the father of the bl. Chiara, whom she succeeded in the direction of the nuns. Pius IX ratified her cult on 2 Aug. 1855. Feast on 30 Jan.
