MANCINI, ISIDORO. - Theologian and canonist of the Order of Minims, b. at Paola (Cosenza) in 1712, d. at Rome on 21 Apr. 1756. For more than fifteen years he taught theology and law, first at Naples and then at Rome, at the College of S. Francesco di Paola ai Monti, where he was regent of studies. Benedict XIV chose him as his “active theologian,” and in 1752 appointed him prefect of studies at the Urban College of Propaganda Fide, an office he held until his death.
He was consultor to the Sacred Congregations of Rites, of Indulgences, and of Sacred Relics, where his opinion was highly esteemed. Within the Order he was superior and vicar general for Italy. The General Chapter, held at Barcelona in 1752, had entrusted him with the task of producing a new edition of the Bultarium Ordinis; this, however, like other works that M. was preparing for publication, remained unpublished because of his premature death.
